The 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup will be played in Brazil from 24 June to 25 July, across eight host cities. It is the first Women's World Cup in South America, and it is the most geographically ambitious one yet: Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo.
That spread is the whole planning problem. Brazil is larger than the contiguous United States minus Alaska, and the eight host cities are not a short hop apart. Any trip that follows a team through the tournament is an air-and-coach operation, not a rail one.
What the calendar looks like
Group stage: 24 June to 8 July, across all eight cities.
Round of 16: 10 to 13 July.
Quarter-finals: 16 and 17 July, in Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Rio and São Paulo.
Semi-finals: 20 and 21 July, in Rio and São Paulo.
Third place: 24 July, São Paulo.
Final: 25 July, Rio de Janeiro.
The shape of that tells you something useful. If you want one base rather than a tour, Rio and São Paulo carry the deepest run of matches. If you want the group stage atmosphere, the smaller cities — Salvador, Recife, Fortaleza — are where the tournament will feel most like a festival.
The cities, briefly
Rio de Janeiro hosts at the Maracanã and takes the final. It is the obvious base and the most expensive.
São Paulo hosts at Itaquera, takes a semi-final and the third-place match. It is the transport hub of the country and the most useful arrival point.
Belo Horizonte at the Mineirão is a football city with a stadium that has real history. Compact, easy, and a good place to be for four days.
Brasília at the Estádio Nacional is a city built for cars and planes, not walking. Plan transport there more carefully than anywhere else on the list.
Salvador at the Fonte Nova has the best food and the steepest streets. The old town is a walk you should not attempt in the middle of the day.
Recife at the Arena de Pernambuco sits outside the city, which makes it the most transport-dependent venue on the list.
Fortaleza at the Castelão is the north-eastern base: beach, heat, and a stadium close enough to the city to be practical.
Porto Alegre at the Beira-Rio is the southern stop, cooler in July, and the furthest from the others.
What this costs you in planning
Three things, in order of importance.
Flights, months out. Domestic flights inside Brazil during a World Cup are the item that will punish you. Book the long-haul into São Paulo or Rio first, once you know which matches you are going to, and treat the internal legs as their own project.
A base strategy. The most common mistake is booking a tour of five cities and spending the tournament in airports. Pick two bases — one for the group stage, one for the knockout rounds — and travel less.
Heat and distance. July is winter in Brazil, which means pleasant in the south and hot in the north-east. The distance between cities is the real cost. Recife to Porto Alegre is a five-hour flight on a good day.
The group question
If you are travelling as a group — and supporter groups are already planning this — the arithmetic is the same as any away day, with two additions.
First, internal transfers between cities are where groups disintegrate. A coach booked in each city is better than one coach chasing the country.
Second, hotels in host cities will fill. A group of forty needs to be booking now, not next summer.
Why start now
Eighteen months is not too early. It is exactly the right amount of time to do this without paying panic prices.
Flights open roughly a year out. Accommodation in Rio and São Paulo will be tight long before that. If you are carrying a balance from a previous trip, this is the window to clear it, so that the 2027 trip is paid for as you take it rather than after.
That is the boring part of a trip announcement and the part that decides whether you enjoy it.
Still paying for a trip you already took?
The weekend costs what it costs. The interest afterwards is optional. See what a debt-relief review actually looks like before the next statement lands — no obligation, no judgement.
The short version
24 June to 25 July 2027, eight cities across Brazil.
Rio takes the final; São Paulo takes a semi-final and the third-place match.
Pick two bases, not five. The internal flights are the trap.
Book long-haul once you know your matches, then build internal legs.
Groups should be booking hotels now.
